Sunny Weather

So we’ve officially been living in LA for 4 weeks and two days now. It feels like 4 months and two weeks. So much has happened. It’s a complete transformation of lifestyle and so many new things. New Cars, New Jobs, New House, New People, New Surroundings. New life.

The weather…. How can I find the words to describe it?

How about this: 75-85 degrees and sunny with no humidity every single day since we got here. Every day. It is amazing. So far I have not taken it for granted. What’s wonderful is how it cools down at night and even gets a little chilly. Ohhh I love it. I know that talking about the weather is so cliché but I’m just someone who is so affected by it and this is making me so fucking happy. Yay.

We had a little bbq on Sunday with some LA friends. It was really nice. We set up the pool for Davey and he got lots of attention from every one on a count of being so damned cute. We played Bocci in the back yard and it turns out that Dup is very good at it. Who knew? Not Dup, I’ll tell you that much. It was great to hang with the LA crew and it made it all feel that much more real when we were making plans to see each other again in the not-so-distant future. It’s no different than New York in that it takes a big effort to get together with people but already it seems like there are so many events and shows and parties and things planned that we’re going to run into people that way as well. I’ve been to see 2 plays since I’ve been here and at both I ran into people I knew who I didn’t expect to see, which was so great and made me feel very popular.

We are searching for a condo to buy. If you’ve ever gone through the process of looking to purchase a place to live then you know that it’s a pretty big deal. I won’t bore you all with the details except to say that yes it’s definitely a buyers market and we are super lucky in that respect but also the real estate in LA is really fucking expensive market down or not. We’re trying to have fun with the whole process and not forget that we are very lucky to be in a position to buy right now and to just remember to get excited about finding the place we’re going to live for probably at least the next 7-10 years. We’re going to look at a place tonight that we both have very high hopes for so please cross your fingers for us!!

The new job is going really well. I love my new boss. It’s always hard being the new girl but I’m sure I’ll get it down in the next 3-4 months and all will be old hat. I think it’s going to be a great job for me long term. Yay!

We had to get Eliott a bark collar. That means that when he’s wearing it and he howls, he gets an electric shock. I know, it’s horrible. But he was out of control with the howling and we were seriously ready to kill him we were so frustrated. We’ve tried everything people. He can’t be trained out of it. We don’t have time to do the training it would take, which would be so intensive that I would have to quit my job and put Davey in day-care. It’s just not realistic. The good news is that he figured out the shock collar really quickly and it’s like a whole new world. He’s just not howling any more. We really should have done this about 3 years ago. It’s funny because it’s really just the really loud howls that shock him so he’s figured out which part of his register he can use and he does a low growl, light barking thing that is much more tolerable. What’s really great is that everyone in the house feels so bad about the shocks that we are all giving Eliott tons of extra love vs. before the shocking when we were all shunning him because he was irritating us so deeply with the howling. It’s going to be ok. He can stay, thank God.

Ok, that’s all for now folks! Do I miss New York? New York itself, not so much. The people, a lot. You know who you are.
